[G] (~2018 Enrolled) Pre-defense (Research proposal presentation)
2022.03.21Pre-defense = Presentation for Research Proposal
1) Definition: A presentation must be taken by Ph.D and MS-Ph.D who passed Qualifying Exam before the Final defense
2) Period: Recommended to have the pre-defense 6 months (1 semester) ahead of the final defense
* It’s okay to have the pre-defense in the same semester with the final defense (but, not recommended)
3) Application: No specific application form exists
4) Procedure
– Nominate 5 committee members discussing with the advisor
– Scheduling with booking a room to have the pre-defense and notifying committee members
– PPT presentation based on the Research proposal (Presentation 30 mins + Q&A 30 mins (recommended)
5) Things to bring for the pre-defense: Thesis in English you’ve working on (don’t need to be 100% perfect), Evaluation form
– Submit the evaluation forms to the staff within 1 week after the pre-defense

6) Committee composition
– Committee members of Pre defense should be the same with the final defense’s
– 5 members including the advisor (1 out of 5 should belong to other departments in UNIST or outside of UNIST / more than 3 should belong to UNIST)
7) Remark: From In case of 2019 Enrolled students, the qualifying exam has been replaced with the pre-defense, so they don’t need to have the pre-defense
